The Role

Hain Daniels are currently recruiting for a Commercial Manager who will be based at our Gateshead site, however travel to other sites and to clients will be required. At Gateshead we manufacture freshly prepared fruit for both the retail and convenience channels, as well as key foodservice partners. We make high quality, delicious food-to-go products. The role will sit within our Fruit division, which also comprises of a site in Corby, Northamptonshire. As such, travel to Corby will be required 1-3 days per week dependent on business needs.

The role of Commercial Manager is to grow and nurture selected strategic accounts or a portfolio of business. This can be either a specific category, retailer or channel within Hain Daniels fruit division.

The individual will be integral to the business and form part of the site leadership team driving the business strategy and ensuring it dovetails with their specific customer needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial Strategy -  Contributes to the commercial growth strategy, ensuring that this is in line with the overall business strategy. Responsible for the delivery of the strategy through retailer account plans.
  • Category Management - through the application of the principles of category management identify and implement opportunities to drive growth in the category. Develop, agree and deliver a category plan ensuring this is in line with the overall business strategy.
  • Commercial Forecast - develop, own, review and deliver the commercial forecast, ensuring this is in line with the overall business strategy.
  • Communication - Responsible for effective and timely communication of all information, whether internally or externally with our customers.
  • Customer Relationships - Establishes strong customer relationships at  retailer team level.  Has regular contact with the customer(s) and vibrates to their needs.
  • Customer Conscience – Understands the needs of the customer and ensures that the business as a minimum meets these.
  • People management - Is responsible for the development of direct reports through annual appraisal and PDP process. 

What you will need for the role / what it will take

  • Good Standard of spoken and written English along with  Mathematics – GCSE Grade A or A level.
  • Minimum 2 year experience in a similar role – ideally in the food industry or at least FMCG.
  • Ideally, you will have experience of Tesco Chilled Goods Category, and have an understanding of the customers' systems and corporate behaviours.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • You will need to demonstrate good IT skills, specifically with Word and Excel.
  • You will be a self-starter, and must be able to work using your own initiative as well as in a team setting.
  • Strong leadership skills - ability to bring both customer and internal team on journey.
  • Strong ability to manage your own workload, and meet deadlines and timescales.
  • Proven negotiation skills.
  • Must have a good understanding of company products and customers, as well as a general understanding of site hygiene, technical and H&S procedures.
